Yashaswini, Ansuman win State schools chess titles

Cuttack bagged a double as Yashaswini Sarangi and Ansuman Samal won the girls’and boys’ title respectively in the State Schools` (Under-17) Chess Championship at Govt Girls` High School, Nayagarh today. Yashaswini won all of her six games to top the table with full six points, while Ansuman won six and drew one to end with 6.5 points.

As many as 63 boys and 40 girls from 17 districts participated in the two-day tournament, which was organized by State Schools Sports Association. The top five finishers in each category qualified to represent Odisha in the forthcoming National Under-17 Schools` Chess Championship, scheduled to be held later this year.

1. Yashaswini Sarangi (Cuttack, 6), 2. Uma Dalpati (Bhubaneswar, 5), 3. Digij Soren (Bhubaneswar, 5), 4. Vidhi Sitani (Jharsuguda, 5), 5. Jyoti Kalo (Jharsuguda, 4.5).

Boys: Ansuman Samal (Cuttack, 6.5), 2. Manindra Karjee (Bhubaneswar, 6), 3. Binod Kanhar (Bhubaneswar, 5.5), 4. Abhishek Nayak (Bhubaneswar, 5.5), 5. Babula Bhoi (Bhubaneswar, 5.5).
